Ruth was the kind of woman who could light up a room, always best dressed, quick-witted, sharp as a tack, and never afraid to speak her mind. Ruth had a wonderful sense of humor and knew how to have a good time. Her friends affectionately knew her as “Ruthie” and she was truly the life of the party. She left an impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. In her younger years, she worked at the Burlington County Times, where she had her career there for 40 years. She loved to dance, especially the jitterbug, and her home was often filled with the music of Tom Jones, Johnny Mathis, and, above all, Elvis. She was a great cook and took pride in bringing her family together around the table. Sunday dinners and holidays were her specialty, usually serving her famous roast beef or meatballs. Summers at Ruth’s house meant backyard barbecues and swimming in the pool.
A true beach girl, Ruth especially enjoyed traveling to Ocean City, New Jersey. She loved sitting on the boards, taking in the sights and people-watching. At home, she had her favorite shows to keep her entertained, including General Hospital, Dancing with the Stars, and 90 Day Fiancé. She always had her coffee close by, enjoyed a Boost, and was never one to turn down a Jersey Mike’s hoagie.
But Ruth’s greatest joy was being a Nanny. She was very involved in her grandchildren’s lives as their babysitter, biggest cheerleader, and constant presence at their sporting events. She loved taking them to the movies, going mini golfing, and simply spending time with them.
Ruth is predeceased by her husband John. She is survived by her children Karen (Gary) Wagner, John (Terri) Mongillo, and Tracey (Robert) Douglass, her grandchildren John Paul (Stevi), Aaron, Cody, Kyle, Lacey, and Zachary, and her great grandchildren Akai, Kalliope, Luciano, Kylo, and Jackson. Along with many relatives and friends.
Come celebrate 91 great years on Wednesday, September 2nd, from 10am-12pm where there will be a 12pm service at Sweeney Funeral Home, Riverside. Interment immediately to follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Riverside.
