Sherri Hart
Some people make a house feel like home, Sherri made every place she went feel that way. Born and raised in Northeast Philadelphia, she attended St. Jerome’s primary school and Abraham Lincoln High School. As a young girl, she met the love of her life, Mike. What started as young love became a lifetime together, and at the ripe age of 18, the two were married, beginning a beautiful journey side by side. Sherri went on to become an Autistic Support Teacher for over three decades at J.H. Brown School in Northeast Philadelphia.
Proudly Italian through and through, Sherri’s kitchen was the heart of her home. She was famous for her meatballs and potato salad, and the unforgettable holiday meals that brought everyone together. Every Christmas, she eagerly welcomed her beloved, “Fab 5”, her five grandchildren, and their cousins into the kitchen, teaching them the treasured family recipes for cookies. While she loved family gatherings at home, Sherri also created countless memories during trips to Disney with her grandchildren. Still, no place held her heart quite like Big Timber Lake in Cape May Court House. It was her happy place, where summers were spent making memories with family and friends. Her love for the campground extended beyond recreation, as she proudly worked at the front desk there for 32 years.
Sherri’s greatest joy, however, was being a mommom. She was her grandchildren’s biggest fan, faithfully attending every game, recital, concert, and special event she could. When she found a little time for herself, you could almost certainly find Sherri cheering on the Eagles, Phillies, 76ers, or Flyers.
Sherri is predeceased by her parents Jack and Eleanor Salera, her step father Joe Gambino, and her sister Diane Rainey.
Sherri is survived by her husband Mike, her children Michael and Sean (Jen), her grandchildren Jocelyn, Mackenzie, Jaxon, Mason, and Cole, her siblings Denise (Dave), Barb (Dan), Linda (Gary), Dan (Cindy), Steve (Linda), Johnny (Crystal), Joanna (Erik) and Steve Rainey. Along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Come celebrate 68 great years on Wednesday, July 15th from 8:30am to 10:15am at Resurrection Parish (St. Casimir site). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am. Interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Autistic Support at J.H. Brown School at https://philasd.schoolcashonline.com/Fee/Details/15167/311/False/True. Sherri was a good friend to me. I will always remember our chats after work at BTL. So many memories we have shared over many years. Sherri once BTL family always BTL . Love you forever. Until me meet again my friend. The entire family is in my thoughts.
I met Sherri again while I was working at Edwin Forrest school. She was the aid on the bus for 1 of the kids. we would sit and talk about the days at Lincoln. She was a loving and friendly person. RIP my friend.
